Adenosine-5′-triphosphate [ATP] has intracellular role as the energy source for tissues. ATP as a supplement is marketed as ” the explosive natural energy needed for muscular work”. One study [with 400 mg ATP daily] noted an increase in low peak torque and decrease muscle fatigue, however, this low peak torque increase failed to translate into improvements in leg muscle power or work performed. Another study with doses up to 225 mg resulted in an increase in bench press strength but authors didn’t attribute this to ATP treatment but suspected a spurious change in treatment differences.
