Amorphophallus konjac [Glucomannan] is a soluble polysaccharide and is considered a dietary fiber. It is usually used for weight loss, management of high cholesterol, blood sugar control, and type 2 diabetes. Glucomannan is thought to prolong gastric emptying time, which increases satiety, reduces body weight, decreases the ingestion of foods that increase cholesterol and glucose concentrations. Most studies evaluating it as a weight loss supplement are showing mild but significant effects on weight. Benefits of glucomannan also include cholesterol lowering [but not HDL cholesterol], and triglycerides.
