What we collect
We only collect the personal information we need to run the site. This may include:
- Comments: if you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address, and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser details. Your email address is never shown publicly.
- Messages you send us: if you contact us by email or through a contact form, we collect your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message.
- Technical and security data: like most websites, our hosting provider and security software automatically log information such as IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and the time of your visit. This is used to keep the site secure and working properly.
- Usage data: Google Analytics collects information about how you use the site through cookies and similar technologies. See “Google Analytics” below.
We don’t ask for health information, and we don’t sell your personal information.
How we use it
- To publish and moderate comments, and to filter out spam.
- To reply to your messages.
- To protect the site from attacks, spam, and misuse.
- To understand which content is useful so we can improve it.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the site. They handle information to provide their services to us:
- Web hosting (Hostinger), which stores the site and its data.
- Security software (Wordfence), which checks visits for malicious activity.
- Spam filtering (Akismet, by Automattic), which checks comments for spam.
- Analytics (Google Analytics), which tells us how visitors use the site.
Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States and Europe. We may also disclose information where required by law.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site — for example, which pages are viewed, how long people stay, and what kind of device or browser they use. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information, which is reported to us in aggregate. You can learn how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. WordPress may set cookies when you leave a comment so you don’t have to re-enter your details next time. Google Analytics sets cookies as described above, and embedded content from other websites (for example, videos) may also set cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work properly if you do.
Links to other websites
Our articles link to research papers, government websites, and online stores. We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices of other websites, so please check their policies.
How long we keep it
Comments and their details are kept for as long as the comment is published. Messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping. Security logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted automatically. Analytics data is retained by Google according to our account settings.
Keeping it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorized access, including security software and secure (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, however.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, including your comments. Just contact us. If you’re in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another region with privacy laws that give you additional rights, you can also contact us to exercise those rights.
If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Children
This site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.

Affiliate Disclosure
Some articles include links to products sold on other websites, such as Amazon. Some of these may be affiliate links, which means the site may earn a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking — at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate relationships never determine what our articles say about the research. Our aim is to describe the evidence accurately, whether or not a product is linked. A product link is not a personal endorsement or a recommendation that the product is right for you. If we ever publish sponsored content, we will clearly label it.
