About Us

About Nutrient Journal

Supplement marketing is full of big promises. Nutrient Journal exists to check those promises against the research and explain what the evidence actually shows, in plain English.

The site has been publishing articles on sports nutrition, supplements and everyday health since 2013. Nutrition science moves fast, though, and some of what was written years ago no longer holds up. So we’re working through our older articles one by one, updating them with current research and correcting anything that’s out of date.

How we update our articles

  • We check every source. Each citation is opened and confirmed to be the right study, from a legitimate source, and to actually support the claim it’s attached to.
  • We use credible sources. Peer-reviewed research, government health bodies and university or medical institutions. Not supplement brands, sellers or forums.
  • We’re honest about the evidence. If something has only been tested in animals, or in one small study, we say so.
  • We skip the hype. No miracle claims, and no promises that a supplement will cure, treat or prevent disease.

Updated articles show the date they were last revised, with a full reference list at the end.

Meet Kate Ellison, Editor

Kate Ellison, editor of Nutrient Journal

Kate looks after Nutrient Journal’s content and keeps our older articles accurate as the science changes. She’s interested in the gap between what nutrition research actually shows and how it gets reported, and she tries to explain both clearly, including where the evidence is still thin.

Every update she makes is checked against peer-reviewed studies and official health sources, with every citation linked so you can read them yourself. Kate isn’t a dietitian or medical professional, and nothing on this site replaces advice from one.
